Commercial Catering Equipment Installation: Site Readiness Checklist
Commercial catering equipment installation starts before the delivery vehicle arrives. A site-readiness check brings the equipment specification, building services, access plan and operating schedule together while there is still time to correct a mismatch.
1. Confirm the approved equipment schedule
Check model references, dimensions, weights, connection requirements and accessories against the final order. Make sure revisions to the kitchen plan or operating brief have been reflected in the equipment schedule.
2. Walk the complete delivery route
Measure entrances, corridors, turns, lifts and changes in level. Confirm delivery restrictions, parking, unloading arrangements and who will protect floors and finished surfaces. Plan how existing equipment and packaging will leave the site.
3. Verify every service at the final position
- Gas type, pressure, pipework and isolation
- Electrical voltage, phase, load, protection and isolation
- Water supply, treatment requirements and drainage
- Ventilation capacity, interlocks and equipment clearances
- Network connection where the equipment requires it
The installer should receive the relevant manufacturer information and site drawings before attendance. Any uncertainty should be resolved before connection work begins.
4. Coordinate the working area
Agree which areas will be isolated, who else will be working nearby and when the kitchen must return to service. Ensure the final position allows safe use, cleaning and future engineering access.
5. Define commissioning and handover
The project plan should state who will test the equipment, record the results and demonstrate relevant controls. Gather operating instructions, test documentation, warranty information and maintenance recommendations into the site records.
Questions to close before installation day
- Has the site been checked against the final equipment specification?
- Are all services live, accessible and ready to test?
- Is the delivery and removal route available at the agreed time?
- Are responsibilities clear between the supplier, installer and site team?
- Who will accept the commissioning records and handover?
